There’s nothing quite like the joyful chaos of Christmas morning. Wrapping paper flies, laughter fills the air, and little hands tear open boxes with wide-eyed excitement. They can’t wait to see what’s inside, and the real joy comes not just from receiving the gift, but from discovering and using what’s been given.
But imagine how strange it would be if a child received a beautifully wrapped present—and never opened it. Sadly, that’s how many Christians treat the greatest gift ever given: the gift of salvation. Some admire it from a distance, some acknowledge it, but few take the time to unwrap its full richness and experience all that it offers.
Would you agree that eternal life is the most precious gift anyone could ever receive? Out of His infinite love, our Heavenly Father has extended this gift to all who will accept it through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. Unlike the temporary gifts we unwrap on earth, this one never fades, breaks, or loses its wonder—it’s eternal.
Let’s take a moment to unwrap the gift of salvation and see what’s inside.
First, God gave us what was most precious to Him—His beloved Son. Jesus came to earth clothed in humanity but remained fully divine. On that holy night in Bethlehem, the angels announced the greatest news ever proclaimed: “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).
Jesus came to rescue us from eternal separation from God and give us access to His Kingdom. Through faith, trust, and love in Jesus, we receive mercy instead of judgment, forgiveness instead of condemnation, and grace instead of guilt.
But the gift doesn’t stop there. Salvation gives us something even deeper—a personal relationship with God. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, you are accepted, loved, and given direct access to the Father. You can come boldly to His throne of grace at any time, knowing He welcomes you with open arms. “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
Even when you stumble, your fellowship can be restored if you simply confess your sins.
And perhaps the most incredible part of salvation is this: the very Spirit of God lives inside you. Jesus promised that the Father would send the Holy Spirit—the divine Helper, Comforter, and Teacher—to guide you in all truth.
“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16–17)
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” (John 14:26)
The Holy Spirit is the divine guarantee of God’s promise—the assurance that one day, you will be with the Lord forever.
So this Christmas, don’t leave your greatest gift sitting unopened. Take time to unwrap the full beauty of your salvation. Reflect on what it means to be forgiven, loved, and indwelt by the Spirit of God. As you do, may your heart overflow with gratitude, your soul overflow with worship, and your life overflow with the joy of knowing that Jesus truly is the greatest gift of all.
Merry Christmas—and may your heart be filled with the wonder of the Savior who came for you!
