All the lessons you need for your life are hidden within your experiences, you just have to take the time to examine them. When you look closely, you’ll begin to see that every failure, disappointment, or detour carries the seeds of future success. The key is learning from what life teaches you.
I once met a woman who told me how getting fired turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to her. She was 47 years old, an administrative assistant for over two decades, when her supervisor walked in one morning and told her she was done—no severance, no benefits, no retirement. Just like that, everything she had depended on was gone.
She went home devastated. When she told her teenage daughter what happened, her daughter asked, “What are you going to do now?” Without missing a beat, she replied, “I guess I’m going to do what I’ve always wanted to do.”
So she took a risk. She mortgaged her home and started a small business, offering virtual administrative support to two small law firms. That humble start turned into something extraordinary. Within ten years, she became a multimillionaire and the founder of one of the largest virtual assistant companies in the world.
When I asked her how she saw it now, she smiled and said, “If I could find the man who fired me, I’d thank him.”
At the time, she couldn’t understand the pain of that moment. But looking back, she realized that being fired wasn’t the end, it was God’s way of redirecting her to something far greater. God closed one door so He could open the one that led to her purpose. What looked like rejection was actually divine protection.
Maybe you’ve been there. Maybe you’ve faced something that broke your heart or left you confused—a job loss, a failed relationship, a missed opportunity—and you still can’t make sense of it. But hear this truth: God wastes nothing. The same God who allows setbacks also uses them to prepare you for the next level of your calling.
Romans 8:28 assures us that “all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose.” That includes your mistakes, your disappointments, and even the doors that slammed shut.
So if you’re in the middle of failure right now, don’t let fear or shame define you. Instead, ask God, “What are You trying to teach me through this?” Because sometimes, it’s in losing what you thought you needed that you discover what you were created for.
God’s blueprints often include seasons that make no sense in the moment, but in time, they reveal His perfect design. Trust that He’s shaping you, strengthening you, and setting you up for something far greater than you can see right now.
Your failure might just be the doorway to your future.
So take a moment today and reflect—what have you learned from the failures in your life? Because when you look through the lens of faith, you’ll see that what once felt like defeat was actually the hand of God positioning you for destiny.
