Worry is primarily a matter of control, it’s our human attempt to manage what’s beyond our reach. We worry about the economy because we can’t control it. We worry about our children because we can’t control every decision they make. We worry about the future because we can’t predict it. But here’s the truth: worry never solves anything. It’s like being stuck in a rocking chair—there’s plenty of motion, but no progress.
In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gave us four powerful reasons why we shouldn’t worry:
1. Worry is unreasonable.
Jesus said in Matthew 6:25, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?”
When you think about it, worry doesn’t make logical sense. If you can change something, change it. If you can’t, let it go. Either way, worrying is pointless. Life is too precious to waste energy on what won’t last.
2. Worry is unnatural.
In Matthew 6:26, Jesus said, “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”
Every part of God’s creation trusts Him—except us. Birds don’t stress about tomorrow. Flowers don’t fret about rain. Yet we, made in His image, allow anxiety to rob our peace. Worry goes against how God designed us—to live in faith, not fear.
3. Worry is unhelpful.
Jesus asked, “And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?” (Matthew 6:27)
Worry changes nothing but you. It drains your joy, disturbs your sleep, and clouds your thinking. It’s movement without progress, energy without purpose. When you let worry rule, you lose focus on what truly matters—trusting the God who already has a plan.
4. Worry is unnecessary.
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:30, “If God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?”
If God takes care of the birds and the flowers—things here today and gone tomorrow—how much more will He care for you, His beloved child?
Philippians 4:19 promises, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” That covers everything—your finances, your health, your relationships, your future, your dreams. If it matters to you, it matters to God.
So, instead of worrying, worship. Instead of panicking, pray. When you release control, you make room for peace.
Today, let this truth settle in your heart: God’s got this. He’s got you. He’s never failed before, and He’s not about to start now.
Don’t worry about it—trust the One who holds tomorrow in His hands.
