“So he declared he would destroy them. But Moses, his chosen one, stepped between the LORD and the people. He begged him to turn from his anger and not destroy them” (Psalm 106:23).
Have you ever felt the burden to pray for someone that was in dire need of a miracle or for God to intervene in their life?
Have you ever had someone on your mind so heavy that it begins to affect you emotionally?
These are a few questions that many people ask when it comes to intercession. They begin to sense something is awry in their spirits, or they begin to think about someone constantly and do not know why. Many times it drives them to pray even though they may not know what they are praying for.
Intercession is a concept that many times gets lost in translation. If God listens to everyone, why does someone need to pray for someone else if they can pray for themselves?
If God is merciful, why do I need to pray for God to move for someone else?
People who are called to intercession will generally go through these series of questions only to come to an understanding that God will raise up special types of people to invoke a divine intervention through the Holy Spirit.
God is merciful and by His mercy, He will raise up a person to stand before Him and overturn a drastic or life-threatening situation. The question is not if God is listening to everyone’s prayer, but rather if God is looking for someone to stand between Him and the people. Are there people who are willing to stand in that place of intercession?
What is intercession?
Intercession is standing in the gap between God and another individual. It is akin to a legal defendant pleading the case before a judge on behalf of someone else. Normally intercession is required when you have a guilty party that needs a righteous person to stand in their stead.
“Now then, return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, so that he will pray for you, and you shall live” (Genesis 20:7).
We see in the text above, God spoke to Abimelech and told him about his demise if he did not return Sarah back to Abraham. Although Abimelech has this conversation with the Lord and they are communing together, God is not going to listen to the prayer for restoration but rather will only listen to Abraham.
Intercession moves individuals to cry out for the mercy of God to be poured out and to absolve the wrath of God or to turn away the schemes of demonic forces. Share on XIntercession will pull you into spiritual court battles fighting against the accuser of the brethren (Revelations 12:7-14) to remove the curses and accusations the enemy uses to bind the saints and unbelievers. Intercession reminds God of His promises.
We all pray, but God will raise up an individual and speak to them personally on how to intercede. How to stand in between Him and His people so His anger will not consume the people. God will raise up a remnant, a small group of willing people who will spend hours in prayer and battle demonic forces from taking over. Spend hours in prayer to wrestle the saints of God out of the hands of the enemy. Spend hours in prayer to back the devil out of a territory.
So how does God choose an intercessor?
God’s selection of the next generation of intercessors is based on willingness. How willing are you to be used by God? How open is your heart to the things of God? Will, you allow the Holy Spirit to weep through you for the people that are “lost” (Romans 8:25-26) How willing are you to allow the Holy Spirit to cause you to miss sleep, miss a couple of meals, miss going to the movies or a night out on the town to pray for someone else (Isaiah 58:6). To stand between God and a city and remind Him of His promises over a city (Deuteronomy 9:13-14).
God is releasing His power in an unusual way, are you willing to be a part of this move of God and usher in one of the greatest times in the history of the church by becoming an intercessor? The call is there, will you accept it!
