How to Face Your Fears and Indecision

The root of all indecision is fear. We all have different kinds of fears, such as:

  • We are afraid we will make mistakes and embarrass ourselves.
  • We are worried that we will not be able to finish what we have started.
  • We are scared we are not good enough.

If we are honest with ourselves, one of the fears that keep us from making decisions is the fear of disapproval.

So how do you get rid of the fear of disapproval, or any other kind of fear?

There is only one way: Face it, and move against it with faith!

In other words, you have to trust God and step out in faith. Will it be risky? Yes! Because life is risky. But what a life you can live when you live it in faith and by faith!

Stepping out in faith is not living with certainty. It is trusting God in spite of unanswered questions and unresolved doubts. Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1).

In every major decision, I had to make as a firefighter and as an educator, there was a level of fear. But I did it anyway because I understood this:

Courage is not the absence of fear; courage is moving ahead in spite of your fear. If you are not afraid, you do not need courage. Share on X

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6 ).

God supports those who move in faith. Choosing faith, even in the face of uncertainty, opens the door for God to move us from where we are to where He wants us to be. So here is the question we need to ask ourselves: Do I really trust the Lord?

Commit yourself to the Lord, and He will give you the wisdom and courage to make the decision that will bring you closer to who He created you to be.

Question: How have your fears kept you from moving forward in life?
